Indigo Lamb

From a very young age I couldn't help but create things.  With a great deal of moving around throughout the country I did not have the opportunity to take lessons or classes but that didn't stop me from drawing the stained glass windows at my Grandmother's church with the crayons she brought to keep us busy and quiet, copying animal illustrations from library books,  or making my own little worlds from found materials.  This also meant trying to teach my siblings how to create as well, so artmaking and teaching have always gone hand in hand.

Years later in college I decided to change majors as I discovered that while I was very good at science I needed art.  I threw myself into catching up with peers who had always been able to study art with guidance and support.  Then before I knew it I was an art teacher.  I worked in public schools as a Fine Arts teacher for a decade while also offering private lessons.  I loved sharing art as much as creating it.  A few years ago after significant life changes I made the move into exclusively creating and teaching art on my own terms and Indigo Art Lessons was born.

My personal teaching philosophy is that Art connects culture, history, science, math, with motor skills, creative thinking, and critical problem solving skills.  I'm a firm believer that everyone can benefit from studying art because art is philosophy, the study of life itself.  There is something universally human in the experience of creating something and seeing your skills grow.   Whether your goal is to improve in a specific medium, create a single project, expand your knowledge across styles and cultures, develop personal expression, or more, I enjoy guiding my students on their artistic journey.

When I'm not working in the studio or teaching I enjoy spending time with my family and our plethora of animals.   I love cooking, kayaking, hiking, gardening, building things, and am an avid bookworm.  I am terrible to travel with because I enjoy a lot of aimless wandering over an itinerary and I have a distinct ability to get lost.
