Have you ever heard of felting? If you are not familiar with this art form, here is a very simplified explanation. You can create create everything form 3d figures, painting like images, to useful objects like hats and bags out of wool. Sheep's wool has some amazing properties where they intertwine and become matted together. You can do this with water and a lot of rubbing to make a fabric or with special needles that hook the fibers together.
To showcase the wonderful work one of my student's is creating, here are some in progress photos of a rainbow colored tree of life that has been needle felted. The leaves are hand sewn bead work. Once all the needle felting is done we will be turning this one of a kind artwork into a usable bag I can't wait to see the final result.
